Be smart, play smart, and master craps the correct way!

Dice and dice games goes back to the Crusades, but modern craps is just about 100 years old. Current craps come about from the old Anglo game called Hazard. Nobody knows for certain the birth of the game, however Hazard is believed to have been made up by the Englishman, Sir William of Tyre, around the 12th century. It is supposed that Sir William’s paladins enjoyed Hazard amid a blockade on the citadel Hazarth in 1125 AD. The title Hazard was gotten from the castle’s name.

Early French settlers brought the game Hazard to Canada. In the 1700s, when driven away by the British, the French headed south and found refuge in southern Louisiana where they at a later time became Cajuns. When they fled Acadia, they took their best-loved game, Hazard, along. The Cajuns broke down the game and made it more mathematically fair. It’s said that the Cajuns altered the name to craps, which is acquired from the term for the non-winning throw of snake-eyes in the game of Hazard, recognized as "crabs."

From Louisiana, the game extended to the Mississippi scows and throughout the country. Most acknowledge the dice builder John H. Winn as the creator of current craps. In the early 1900s, Winn built the current craps setup. He appended the Do not Pass line so players could bet on the dice to not win. Afterwords, he designed the boxes for Place bets and added the Big 6, Big 8, and Hardways.
