Be clever, play brilliant, and master craps the right way!
Games that use dice and the dice themselves goes all the way back to the Middle Eastern Crusades, but modern craps is approximately a century old. Current craps formed from the 12th Century Anglo game referred to as Hazard. Nobody knows for sure the origin of the game, however Hazard is believed to have been made up by the Englishman, Sir William of Tyre, sometime in the twelfth century. It’s theorized that Sir William’s horsemen played Hazard through a blockade on the fortress Hazarth in 1125 AD. The name Hazard was acquired from the fortress’s name.
Early French settlers imported the game Hazard to Acadia. In the 18th century, when displaced by the English, the French relocated south and settled in the south of Louisiana where they a while later became Cajuns. When they departed Acadia, they brought their best-loved game, Hazard, along. The Cajuns simplified the game and made it mathematically fair. It’s said that the Cajuns altered the title to craps, which was gotten from the name of the bad luck throw of snake-eyes in the game of Hazard, recognized as "crabs."
From Louisiana, the game moved to the Mississippi barges and all over the nation. A great many acknowledge the dice maker John H. Winn as the father of current craps. In the early 1900s, Winn developed the modern craps setup. He created the Don’t Pass line so players can bet on the dice to lose. Later, he established the spaces for Place wagers and added the Big 6, Big 8, and Hardways.
