Be brilliant, play cunning, and master craps the ideal way!

Games that use dice and the dice themselves goes all the way back to the Crusades, but modern craps is just about 100 years old. Modern craps come about from the 12th Century Anglo game referred to as Hazard. Nobody knows for certain the birth of the game, however Hazard is believed to have been invented by the Anglo, Sir William of Tyre, around the 12th century. It’s presumed that Sir William’s soldiers wagered on Hazard through a blockade on the fortification Hazarth in 1125 AD. The name Hazard was acquired from the citadel’s name.

Early French settlers imported the game Hazard to Acadia. In the 18th century, when banished by the British, the French relocated south and settled in the south of Louisiana where they at a later time became known as Cajuns. When they were driven out of Acadia, they brought their favored game, Hazard, along. The Cajuns simplified the game and made it more mathematically fair. It’s believed that the Cajuns altered the name to craps, which is derived from the term for the bad luck throw of two in the game of Hazard, referred to as "crabs."

From Louisiana, the game moved to the Mississippi riverboats and across the country. Most think the dice builder John H. Winn as the creator of modern craps. In 1907, Winn designed the current craps layout. He appended the Do not Pass line so players could wager on the dice to not win. At another time, he invented the spots for Place wagers and put in place the Big 6, Big 8, and Hardways.
