Be smart, play clever, and pickup craps the right way!

Dice and dice games goes back to the Crusades, but current craps is approximately a century old. Current craps evolved from the old English game called Hazard. No one knows for sure the beginnings of the game, however Hazard is said to have been made up by the Englishman, Sir William of Tyre, in the 12th century. It is presumed that Sir William’s horsemen played Hazard through a siege on the citadel Hazarth in 1125 AD. The name Hazard was gotten from the citadel’s name.

Early French settlers brought the game Hazard to Canada. In the 1700s, when banished by the English, the French moved down south and settled in southern Louisiana where they after a while became known as Cajuns. When they departed Acadia, they brought their favored game, Hazard, along. The Cajuns broke down the game and made it mathematically fair. It is said that the Cajuns changed the title to craps, which was derived from the name of the bad luck throw of two in the game of Hazard, known as "crabs."

From Louisiana, the game extended to the Mississippi riverboats and throughout the nation. Many acknowledge the dice builder John H. Winn as the father of current craps. In 1907, Winn developed the modern craps setup. He added the Do not Pass line so gamblers could bet on the dice to lose. Later, he established the spots for Place wagers and put in place the Big 6, Big 8, and Hardways.
