Be clever, play cunning, and master craps the proper way!

Dice and dice games goes back to the Crusades, but current craps is approximately one hundred years old. Modern craps developed from the ancient Anglo game referred to as Hazard. Nobody knows for certain the birth of the game, however Hazard is believed to have been created by the Anglo, Sir William of Tyre, sometime in the twelfth century. It’s presumed that Sir William’s paladins bet on Hazard through a blockade on the fortification Hazarth in 1125 AD. The title Hazard was gotten from the fortress’s name.

Early French settlers brought the game Hazard to Canada. In the 1700s, when displaced by the British, the French moved south and settled in the south of Louisiana where they at a later time became known as Cajuns. When they left Acadia, they brought their favored game, Hazard, with them. The Cajuns broke down the game and made it mathematically fair. It’s said that the Cajuns changed the title to craps, which is gotten from the name of the bad luck throw of 2 in the game of Hazard, referred to as "crabs."

From Louisiana, the game migrated to the Mississippi scows and throughout the nation. Most acknowledge the dice builder John H. Winn as the father of modern craps. In 1907, Winn built the current craps setup. He appended the Do not Pass line so gamblers could wager on the dice to not win. At another time, he established the spaces for Place wagers and put in place the Big 6, Big 8, and Hardways.
