Dice and dice games goes back to the Crusades, but current craps is approximately 100 years old. Current craps come about from the old English game called Hazard. Nobody absolutely knows the birth of the game, although Hazard is believed to have been discovered by the Englishman, Sir William of Tyre, around the twelfth century. It’s presumed that Sir William’s soldiers gambled on Hazard through a blockade on the castle Hazarth in 1125 AD. The title Hazard was gotten from the fortress’s name.
Early French colonizers imported the game Hazard to Nova Scotia. In the 18th century, when expelled by the British, the French moved down south and located sanctuary in southern Louisiana where they eventually became known as Cajuns. When they were driven out of Acadia, they brought their favored game, Hazard, with them. The Cajuns modernized the game and made it mathematically fair. It is believed that the Cajuns adjusted the name to craps, which was gotten from the name of the losing toss of two in the game of Hazard, known as "crabs."
From Louisiana, the game moved to the Mississippi river boats and all over the country. A good many acknowledge the dice builder John H. Winn as the founder of current craps. In the early 1900s, Winn created the current craps setup. He appended the Don’t Pass line so players could bet on the dice to lose. Afterwords, he invented the boxes for Place bets and put in place the Big 6, Big 8, and Hardways.
