Be brilliant, play smart, and master craps the ideal way!

Dice and dice games goes all the way back to the Middle Eastern Crusades, but current craps is approximately 100 years old. Current craps developed from the old Anglo game referred to as Hazard. No one knows for certain the birth of the game, however Hazard is believed to have been discovered by the Anglo, Sir William of Tyre, around the twelfth century. It is believed that Sir William’s horsemen played Hazard amid a siege on the castle Hazarth in 1125 AD. The name Hazard was acquired from the fortification’s name.

Early French settlers imported the game Hazard to Acadia. In the 18th century, when exiled by the British, the French relocated down south and found safety in southern Louisiana where they eventually became Cajuns. When they left Acadia, they brought their favored game, Hazard, along. The Cajuns broke down the game and made it fair mathematically. It’s believed that the Cajuns adjusted the title to craps, which was acquired from the term for the bad luck throw of two in the game of Hazard, referred to as "crabs."

From Louisiana, the game extended to the Mississippi river boats and throughout the country. A great many consider the dice maker John H. Winn as the creator of modern craps. In 1907, Winn built the current craps setup. He appended the Do not Pass line so gamblers can bet on the dice to not win. Afterwords, he developed the boxes for Place bets and put in place the Big 6, Big 8, and Hardways.
